The House that Pat Built...

Life Book 2015, Week 7, led by Violette Clark.  We are to draw a magical house.

Rather than draw a house on a journal page, I chose to build my house based on a small quilted self portrait; paint it using Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels; cut it up and sew it together.  The words outside represent the feelings inside my house.  I live in a truly happy home.

just one more thing...

I thought I was finished making little bags for my travel stuff, but I still needed just a little something to hold pens, glue stick and scissors to go with my journal.

My own texture added to original photo.

simple to do - couple of layers of felt, button and thread...
That's it I'm done - this time I mean it!

Travel...

We leave next week for Budapest-Vienna-Prague.   I'm organizing my camera stuff.

First, I bought this fantastic Kelly Moore camera bag.  Last week I made a travel journal.  This morning I made a small zippered bag for my i-phone accessories.  The only thing left to do now is pack my clothes, etc.  I can hardly wait!

Buttoning Up 2013

Life Book 2013 is coming to an end.  It was fun to look over what I had accomplished in the project.  I remember creating each page and can hardly believe it was a year ago that I began - where did the time go?!

I spent a lot of time mulling over how to put this journal together.  I have mentioned here before - I like to use materials I have on hand.  I did not want to go out and spend any money on specialty papers to put the 2013 book together.  I have plenty of canvas in my stash.  A canvas piece cut to size with a layer of gesso added for stability.  3" x 12" strips were cut.  These strips were folded in half.  I spent the better part of two days preparing these strips and sewing 4 button holes onto each strip.  Each canvas strip was sewn joining two journal pages together.

5.0 zig zag stitch - leather sewing machine needle.  I found using paper clips rather than pins helped keep the pages in place while sewing.

The first page of the journal complete.

All of the journal pages are now complete.  Next step working on front and back covers.  I hope to finish this up before 2014 begins!

The Stitch...

Dyeing - done...
Quilt top - finished...
Machine quilting - done...

Hand stitching 6-8 hours at a stretch, my wrist gets very sore.  The brace helps tremendously!

Another couple of weeks and this quilt will be complete.
