faces...

Experimenting with mixed media to create faces for an art piece I'm working on...watercolors, acrylics, water soluble crayons, watercolor pencils, GAC 900.  Experimentation and play - that's what it's all about.

Mellow Yellow...

Challenge - create a smallish piece of art - the theme "mellow yellow".

8x10 canvas layered with text

add gesso

finger painting with acrylics

add stenciling and assorted papers

more papers, stamped, doodles, paint splatters

Voila!

Might as well make a trifold card at the same time - same techniques...plus a little extra

card front

card back

Waiting...

"Waiting for the Phone to Ring"...surely I'm not the only one who has experienced this!

I've done all the work I can do - now tag, wrap, box up paintings, note card, Christmas ornaments for the Christmas bazaar this weekend.

Fading beauty...

The older she gets, the more she feels like she is fading into the background...

My Blue Zone...

Have you heard of the Blue Zone project?  I'm not much into having city/county officials trying to influence one's choices over what to eat, how to exercise...blah, blah, blah

I think I know better than anyone what is healthy for me.  I prefer having control over my own lifestyle choices!

Small 5/7 canvas depicting my blue zone!

She Wants...

Inspiration comes from many different/places and things.

She started out with these materials plus a few others...

and became this!

taking a break...

I planned to work on some small portraits today, but changed gears and started messing around with paint, paper and ink - abstracts - who knew!!?!

I'm going to keep adding to these - totally mindless fun!

Coneflowers

Rather than throw a bad painting out, I gessoed over it and started anew!

I find hands so difficult to do and not look claw-like..something I need to keep working on...

Getting ready...

I've been invited to exhibit my art quilts and dolls in a special exhibit at the Marco Island Center for the Arts.  The artist reception is set for October 11 from 5:30-7:00PM.  I'll also speak about my work at the art center on October 20 at 5:30PM.

Getting the quilts and dolls ready to deliver to the art center.  I always think it will take no time to get ready - not so!  Making sure the quilts are in perfect condition, hanging slats for each one; dolls need to be wrapped and boxed up....takes time and organization!

Sunflowers in a Jug

I'm not sure why I'm painting flowers all of a sudden...my passion is really creating quirky women.  I think it's good for me to try different things.  I'm waiting for some fabric to arrive to enable me to finish a quilt I'm working on - just staying busy.

I painted this from my imagination.  I really should have set up a still life - my lighting is off - oh well...

what I did

Blue Chair with Geraniums

I've repainted the flowers on this piece so many times, I'm exhausted.  (It's not meant to be realistic, merely the suggestion of geraniums...)

I made my own stay wet tray to keep the acrylic paints from drying out.  A quick trip to the dollar store to purchase 9x13 cookie sheet and shammy.  Since the cookie sheet is steel (not stainless) I lined with with plastic, cut the shammy to size, soaked the shammy in water; placed it on cookie sheet and covered it with a piece of baking parchment cut to size - so far so good.  Now that I've finished painting for the day, I covered the whole thing with Press'n Seal.  I think it may keep it wet for a day or two - hoping it will any way!

Blocking In...

Blocking in mid-tones...this is going to be harder to do than I thought!
