One of those days...
It's one of those days where my hands ache so bad I could weep. TMB (too many birthdays!) degenerative arthritis - on top of that I caught my husband's cold! I'm trying working through my discomfort because keeping my mind off of it usually helps. What do you do to get past the pain?

just one more thing...
I thought I was finished making little bags for my travel stuff, but I still needed just a little something to hold pens, glue stick and scissors to go with my journal.
My own texture added to original photo.

simple to do - couple of layers of felt, button and thread...
That's it I'm done - this time I mean it!

Travel...
We leave next week for Budapest-Vienna-Prague. I'm organizing my camera stuff.
First, I bought this fantastic Kelly Moore camera bag. Last week I made a travel journal. This morning I made a small zippered bag for my i-phone accessories. The only thing left to do now is pack my clothes, etc. I can hardly wait!

There's a Bug in My Garden...
My amaryllis are beginning to bloom. I discovered this bug on one of the plants. Of course, I had to take its photo!

sweet stuff...
I'm multi-tasking in the studio today. While waiting for some paint to dry on a drawing, I've been "writing" on some photos. (Normally, this is a flourish I add to my drawings.) It's fun to add an unexpected something to a photo...don't you think?

The BC Divas
I belong to a book club. We call ourselves the Book Club Divas. Over the years (at least 15) new divas has joined and left us too. We number 11 now - perfect - in every way. We women care about each other. They are my closest friends. I love each and every one of them. We take turns hosting our annual Christmas Party. I am the self-appointed photographer of our group. I am trying to master the manual mode on my dslr camera. It's a love/hate relationship. Recently I purchased a SB-700 speedlight. I'd really like to use it tomorrow night for our group photo. I practiced for quite a while today taking self-portraits hoping to simulate the situation tomorrow night. Wish me luck!

Playing Catch Up
My husband and I took a road trip recently and as a result, I missed a couple of Life Book 2013 sessions. Weeks 44 and 45 led by Tamara Laporte.
Week 45 - graphite drawing. My inspiration is this sweet little hippo I found at a store in Savannah GA.
Week 44 draw a whimsical Halloween drawing of ourselves referring to a self-portrait photo.
...any resemblance to myself is purely coincidental!

Exhibit at the Mattie Kelly Gallery...
It was a 10 hour drive from Naples to Niceville, FL. As soon as we got onto Interstate 10, it started to rain. (Why does it always rain when I'm the one driving?!) The temperature had dropped to the 50s - we were totally unprepared for that. As soon as we arrived in Niceville, we found the local Wal-Mart so Richard could buy a jacket.
We headed toward the beach on Saturday morning. We were blessed with a blue sky and plenty of cool gusty winds. Not flattering to one's hair style...

Soups on!
Tonight we have dear friends joining us for dinner. They spend 2-3 months in Naples escaping the cold Chicago winter. Since it's a bit cool here tonight - at least for my husband and me (our guests think it's more like spring!), I'm making a simple meal of soup (Ina Garten's Winter Minestrone), salad and dessert, of course!

She's Walking....
I walk/run daily. It's been a little chilly lately, thus the long pants. (Actually, I'm back from my run - going to get the newspaper.)
The camera was set on a book; remote control used to shoot photo; totally lucky with the focus!

The Book - Mixed Media
I'm still working on the front and back covers of the book. Until these are finished, I am drawing on some of the pages. Talk about mixed media - oh boy! Water colors, gesso, acrylic paints, charcoal pencils, ink, pencil, molding paste, rubber stamps!
We artists - who has more fun than us?!

Happy New Year!
It's time to let go of the past, kiss 2012 good-bye and welcome the New Year.
My wish for you is that 2013 be filled with love, peace, joy and creativity!

Victorious!
It was a hard fought Ebay battle - lots of back and forth bidding - but I won! These are only a few of the shoe forms I added to my collection. I could not hold them all in my hands. I use these gems for doll feet - so much fun!

Friends...
This week's theme for My Town Shoot Out is "Introduce a Friend".
Betty Keigler is one of my favorite people. She is my art buddy. We traipse about town once a month (or more) going to galleries and outdoor spaces looking for inspiration. We're also in the same book club.

Here we are at Naples Bay
Betty's studio.
Betty loves painting - watercolors and oils - oils being her medium of choice.

We spent the better part of a morning down at the bay. I took photos while Betty sketched.

Sew Happy...
This week's Friday My Town Shoot Out theme is "At Rest, At Play or In Between". That's easy - I sew and create with needle and thread.
Christmas is coming. I love to make dolls and try to make something unusual for my youngest granddaughters every year. These dolls were created without a pattern - just cut, sew, embellish and stuff - always a surprise to see what develops!

This is Who I Am...
The Friday My Town Shoot Out theme this week is SELF-PORTRAITS. In 1991 my husband and I took early retirements and moved to Naples, Florida. Quite a change from the busy life we had in Chicago.
This photo collage contains many of the things I love and make me who I am today.
I love the beach and the flowers here. I take long walks daily and especially enjoy beach walks every Saturday and Sunday.
I love classical music and consider myself very lucky to live in a small town with a fantastic orchestra - The Naples Philharmonic.
I am an artist. My medium of choice is fiber - any kind will do. I love my sewing machine and use it almost daily.
I am learning the secrets of Photoshop Elements and how to use my DSLR camera.
I am 65+ years old and can hardly believe it!
Now tell me your story.
