PinUp Girls...
Beginning the applique process on a new quilt. The background fabric is very stiff making this task more difficult.

Getting ready...
I've been invited to exhibit my art quilts and dolls in a special exhibit at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. The artist reception is set for October 11 from 5:30-7:00PM. I'll also speak about my work at the art center on October 20 at 5:30PM.
Getting the quilts and dolls ready to deliver to the art center. I always think it will take no time to get ready - not so! Making sure the quilts are in perfect condition, hanging slats for each one; dolls need to be wrapped and boxed up....takes time and organization!

back to work...
Finally, my sewing machine is fixed and I am able to fill my days working on my latest quilt! I am sew happy!

Texas Quilt Museum
I've never been lucky enough to visit the Texas Quilt Museum in person. I'm happy to have two of my quilts on display there now. The museum looks glorious!
Gallery III: SAQA: People & Portraits
This exhibit celebrates the expressiveness of the human face in 40 stunning quilts created by members of the international organization Studio Art Quilt Associates. The diverse designs focus on a variety of emotional states and the ways in which people interact. The invitational exhibit is based on the book Art Quilt Portfolio: People and Portraits by Martha Sielman. Curated by Pat Kumicich.

Time to Celebrate!

Today we celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. Color me happy!

ATC Swap
Life Book 2013 Week 22 led by Tamara Laporte. We are to make one or two ATC cards (artists trading cards) measuring 2.5" wide by 3.5" high. The theme is "Stardust."
I have not participated in a swap for a long time. I can hardly wait to see I get matched up with.

I am primarily a fiber artist. I made my ATCs like small quilts. The background is hand-dyed fabric pieced together. Image transfer; painted faces; machine embroidery and quilting; embellished.

Small Quilt Made From Left Overs...
Beginning this fall, there is to be a three year tour of the featured SAQA artists in Lark Publications new book "Art Quilt Portfolio People and Portraits." A binder filled with sample quilts will help the viewer understand the artists' process and also have an opportunity to touch the sample quilts. (Touching the exhibition quilts is a no-no!)
This sweet little piece was made from leftovers. I keep a basket of scraps under my sewing table.
My process:
1. Draw simple face; transfer to fusible web
2. Iron fusible web to selected fabrics
3. Cut out pieces

Hand stitching 6-8 hours at a stretch, my wrist gets very sore. The brace helps tremendously!
Another couple of weeks and this quilt will be complete.

Serge Protection
This quilt is in its final stages. I always serge the edges of a quilt before blocking it. The quilts can be heavy and ungainly at times! There is still a lot to do - block, bind, add sleeve and, of course, photograph!

Hard at work...
It takes me an average of 3 months to complete a large quilt (50x50). This piece is coming along nicely. One day, when it's finished, I'll show you the whole picture!
