This week Life Book 2013 is led by artist
Dion Dior. Using white on a black background we are to create vibrant patterns of light that will represent our journey towards a destination that is unique to ourselves. Use a handprint or part thereof and/or repetitive scales of light in a conscious way that is joyful, radiant and alive. That's a tall order!
I did not have any black construction paper or drawing paper on hand. I chose to paint my background with black tinted gesso. (I'm glad I did, because it creates a nice border to my drawing.) I used white "charcoal" pencil and a white Prismacolor pencil and doodled.
I am intrigued by circles and the cosmos. I wrote one of my favorite quotes around the edge of the piece. "One may understand the cosmos, but never the ego; the self is more distant than any star." (G.K. Chesterton)
I had the hardest time photographing this drawing. Difficult to focus on black and white. I put a piece of blue tape on the drawing, set the self-timer, focused on the tape, grabbed away the tape and viola the photo was taken!

I do like the black gesso background! I'm going to have to look into that.
What an interesting project. I like the fact that it's so personal to you.
I see the difficulty with focus, but most digital cameras seem to have a feature where you can move the point of focus to wherever you want within the frame. You could then place a pencil next to the drawing, focus on that while keeping the camera level and centred, and then crop the photo to lose it. The blue tape was a great idea, though!
